This introductory course (67.5 hours) is designed for professionals who wish to practice family mediation. The course content complies with the requirements of the Family Mediation Regulation.

Our training program offers an additional 7.5 hours to allow participants to become more familiar with spousal support calculations and the division of property between spouses and common-law partners.

Structure and educational objectives
of the training

60-hour basic training course, including:

  • 15 hours on economic, legal, and tax issues
  • 15 hours on psychological and psychosocial issues
  • 24 hours on the mediation process
  • 6 hours on domestic violence awareness

+ 7.5 hours of practical exercises on calculating child support and property division. A total of 67.5 hours

Professionals who have been members of accrediting professional bodies for more than three years, including:

Specific objectives

  • To provide future mediators with knowledge about the impact of separation and divorce on parents and children.
  • Gain an understanding of the legal and financial consequences of the dissolution of a marriage.
  • To familiarize participants with the use of mediation as a process for resolving family conflicts and settling such conflicts through negotiation.
  • Gain a deeper understanding of interview techniques specific to mediation.
  • Develop skills in negotiating agreements regarding the arrangement of family relationships after a breakup, the division of property according to different types of unions, and the sharing of financial obligations toward children and between spouses.
  • Raise participants' awareness of the issue of domestic violence, particularly spousal abuse.
  • To enable participants to discover and develop their skills as mediators in separation or divorce cases.
